Getting a Library Card
Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Irving or the surrounding area may present acceptable identification in person and get an Irving Public Library Card with checkout and/or computer privileges. Please click here to see the list of acceptable IDs.

Your first card is free. Replacement cards cost $2. A valid photo ID must be shown and information verified to get a replacement card.

You can use your card at all Irving Public Library locations.

Your library card is required for all transactions, including those by phone. Thank you for having your card ready each time you call or visit the Irving Public Library.

Please promptly report a lost or stolen library card to the library at 972-721-2440.

  • Accept responsibility for any use of the library card
  • Follow all library policies and procedures in effect
  • Present the library card for all account transactions
  • Return all borrowed matierals on time
  • Pay all fees or charges on the library card
  • Report a lost or stolen card
  • Promptly report any change of address, phone or e-mail
Loan Periods and Limits

New Library Card Limits: For the first 90 days, new library cardholders can checkout up to five items, which can include up to two DVDs, at a time. After 90 days, customers with no overdue items on their account who have not incurred any charges may request an upgrade to a Full Privilege card.

Full Privilege Library Card Limits: Once upgraded to full privileges, the checkout limit increases to 50 items, with the following limits:
  • Five DVDs
  • Five Digital Downloads
  • 10 Magazines
  • Two Bluebonnet Award Books
  • Two Book Buddies
  • Two Stories-to-Go kits
  • Two Book-Gab-to-Go Kits (for registered Book Clubs)

Loan Periods: Movies and items in high demand, such as bestsellers, check out for 10 days. All other items check out for 21 days.
