This class introduces students to popular user-created sites of Facebook, Wikipedia and YouTube. Students will learn how to navigate these web sites and discover how they can use the Internet to connect with friends and family, share photos and access video and audio material. Students will be given the opportunity to create their own Facebook account and receive training on security settings and uploading digital photos.

What is Social Media?
A brief definition of the term with an emphasis on publically-created content and use of multimedia.
Blogs & Social Networks Definition of terms and how sites are used; explanation of Twitter; visit Facebook web site and demonstration of site functions.
Multimedia & Videos Description of v-blogs, pod-casts and video; ease of loading new material; visit YouTube and demonstration of instructional videos.
Collaboration & Reviews Description of online ad sites and wikis; visit to Wikipedia.
Social Media Concerns Explanation of personal information and security; ownership of information.
