Irving Public Library has begun a new monthly conversation exchange program, Conversaciones @ Your Library, for non-English speakers and for students learning Spanish.
Through the American Dream Starts @ Your Library literary project grant, funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and distributed by the American Library Association, the Library combines the needs of those learning English and those learning Spanish through conversation tables that will give both groups of students a chance to practice speaking and enhance listening skills.
The tandem language learning experience benefits participants by allowing them practice conversational skills while building vocabulary and confidence in an interactive, friendly environment, as well as build cultural appreciation and community bonds.
